As we continue to expand our business, we are seeking a curious and passionate individual to join our team as the Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/d) in Leipzig or remote within Germany (the role requires occasional travel to our Leipzig HQ).

What Will Your Role Be

As a Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/d), you'll help build the systems that turn designs into real, sellable print products used across multiple markets. You'll work on a shared Decoration Platform and Publishing Backend that supports different print techniques, keeps catalogs consistent and localized, and makes it easy to add new capabilities as the business grows. Your work directly impacts monetization - from enabling premium print techniques like embroidery, stickers, and Flex to improving production reliability and reducing print-related cancellations.

What You´ll Do 

• Design and build backend services on our Decoration Platform and our Publishing Backend, shaping how customer designs become sellable products across markets

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and other engineers to turn business requirements into well-tested software, making pragmatic trade-offs along the way

• Deliver backend improvements that directly impact revenue and customer experience - whether that's new capabilities, catalog logic, or smoother production workflows

• Build AI-powered features into our backend services - from composition analysis to automated product descriptions

• Improve reliability and scalability - reduce print-related cancellations, keep production data trustworthy, and help the platform grow cleanly

What You´ll Bring

• Substantial backend experience on the JVM (Java and/or Kotlin)

• Strong Spring Boot expertise (Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring Batch, Spring Session)

• Ability to translate business requirements into working software - not a pure tech-for-tech person

• Experience with microservices and distributed systems (service-to-service communication, multi-region deployments)

• Solid database and API design skills (MySQL, schema design, REST/OpenAPI)

• CI/CD, containerization, and testing discipline (GitLab CI, Docker, Kubernetes, JUnit 5, TestContainers)

• Proficiency with AI coding tools (Claude, Copilot, or similar) - we follow an AI-first development strategy

• Strong collaborative drive - you actively share knowledge through code reviews, pairing, and mentoring, and see growing the team's capabilities as part of your job

• Comfortable challenging the status quo and navigating a fast-moving environment where priorities shift, teams self-organize, and rigid top-down processes don't exist

• Fluent English, German is a plus

Nice-to-have

• MongoDB (used as primary DB in some of our services)

• Frontend awareness - React / TypeScript / Vite (not a frontend role, but full-stack ability is a plus)

• OAuth2 / Keycloak authentication

• Cloud services, especially AWS (S3)

• Domain knowledge in e-commerce, digital asset management, or publishing workflows

• Experience with Spring AI or building AI-powered features into backend services
